Summary Edit

"The Frankenstein of Hatfield and his handiwork", Thomas Fitzpatrick, Weekly Freeman, 6 May 1893

Parodying Matt Morgan's cartoon "The Irish Frankenstein" in English magazine The Tomahawk in 1869, in which the monster was labelled "Fenianism", Fitzpatrick depicts Tory Prime Minister Lord Salisbury (who came from Hatfield in Hertfordshire) as Frankenstein, creating the drunken monster of "Bigotry" to foment sectarian riots in Belfast and undermine the Home Rule movement.
